Campus Renovation Plan Phase I Vote Results – We Did It!
On December 9, 2007, the congregation of First Church approved the following recommendations of the Campus Renovation Team to build a new Bard Hall with a partial second floor and “green” features; make necessary improvements to the patio, narthex, parking lot, and service drive, and to conduct a capital campaign in early 2008 to secure gifts and multi-year pledges to fund the capital projects, with the recognition that some long-term debt financing will be necessary; and authorize the Board of Trustees to provide oversight for sound planning and fiscal management of the capital projects, capital campaign, and financing. The vote was 235 in favor and 8 opposed. The overwhelming support of this project is in large part due to the time taken by the Campus Renovation Team to ensure that everyone was well informed and to respond to the ideas, concerns, and input of the many Members who attended one or more of the 40 focus groups held during the past 2 years. We are embarking on a gift for the future. In the early 50’s some courageous UUs indebted themselves to build the Meeting House and Bard Hall and it is now our turn to make sure our religious home is there for those who will follow us.
