Attending Comic Con has the feeling like you have really accomplished something – especially given how time consuming it was to try and get tickets. I truly felt like one of the lucky ones that got a 1-day ticket. My wife Jan got one too (it was her first time). As in years past, it was extremely crowded and again, as in years past, I was struck by the friendliness of people, despite the crowds. Time and again I am also amazed at people’s creativity, their sense of play and how family-friendly it is. Jan and I stayed away from the big panels (with movie or television guests) because we didn’t want to stand in one line all day to take the chance on getting into the room and also, there were far more other interesting panels and speakers than those only in the big rooms.

It takes a lot of preparation to go on a pilgrimage. There's so much planning, researching, and deciding what to pack! Traveling lightly on the earth is a huge goal for this sabbatical. And while I am thrilled to be in the planning and preparing mode, I know I will miss the congregation at First Church. So I'm learning to blog so that you can stay informed of the pilgrimage; I'll be posting thoughts, experiences and if I'm really good, photos. I hope you'll tune in regularly starting in September.
Please join me in sending out our sincere support and best wishes to the people of Japan and all of the regions affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Our Unitarian Universalist congregation shares your sadness but also offers our strength and solidarity. UUA / UUSC Japan Relief Fund

A Loving Testimony to Carolyn & Tom Owen-Towle On Behalf of the Queer Community by Jan Garbosky 6/28/02 For the past 24 years—since their first autumn at First Church—Tom and Carolyn have provided a place in which “affirming the inherent dignity and worth of all persons” is a beloved norm. Together and in their individual ministries, they have found ways to help this community explore “otherness” and support “oneness.” Because of their pioneering and support, this church has welcomed first gay; then lesbian and gay; then lesbian, gay and bisexual; and now lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals and organizations. It is because of Carolyn and Tom’s vision and leadership that these church grounds have become a safe place where all of us can share our gifts.
